Carl Danos
Carl hails from the southern state of Louisiana. Born and raised on the Bayou Lafourche, he lives there still with Gail, his wife of 35 years. They raised two children there and now have two grandchildren. For anyone living on the bayou, carving is an important part of one’s culture and heritage. Decoys have always been used for hunting.
It was not until the mid 1970’s that Carl was introduced into the art form of decoy carving. He entered his first contest in 1979 and has been competing ever since. The joy of carving is still very much alive in Carl. He has had the good fortune to compete with his decoys on the West Coast, but mostly competes up and down the East Coast. Since 1980, Carl has competed each year at the Ward World Championships.
His love of his work, and his exceptional talent has won him thousands of ribbons and over 100 “Best of Show” awards. Traveling to the contests and exhibits, such as the Eastern Waterfowl Exhibit, has given him the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and now some of his pieces are in their collections throughout the United States and in many other countries.
Carl is classified as a “Master Decoy Carver”. He is the first to say that his is a God given talent and he has truly enjoyed every minute of it.
